CLARA BROWN

Clara Brown was a pioneer of the Old West.  She rose from slavery to become a businesswoman, charity worker, nurse, and humanitarian.  At one time her home served as a church, a hospital, and a place for the homeless.  She spent most of her life trying to secure the freedom of family members and other loved ones.
